The Mackinac Bridge is the longest suspension bridge in the western hemisphere at close to 5 miles from end to end. Stay in the UP and visit St. Ignace, neighboring Sault Ste. Marie or cross the bridge to Mackinac City. At both ends of the bridge ferrys run daily to Mackinc Island. Travel time is about 1 hr 10 minutes from Gulliver Lake.
Ferrys to Mackinac Island depart from St. Ignace and Mackinac City. Motorized vehicles are not allowed on the island. A few miles north west of Manistique is Kitch-iti-Kipi (The Big Spring). Enjoy a ride on the self-propelled observation raft. From the raft looking down into the crystal clear water you will not guess the depth to be 45 feet. You will see 16,000 gallons of water spew from the floor of the spring along with native brown trout. Travel time is about 25 minutes from Gulliver Lake.
Seney Wildlife Refuge covers 95,000 acres of protected habitat. Home to trumpeter swans, loons, sandhill crane, bald eagles, wolves, bears, moose and many other species rarely seen outside a protected environment. The visitors center offers an orientation including slides, a hands on display, a schedule of special programs. Fifty miles of bike and hiking trails await you. Travel time is about 30 minutes from Gulliver Lake.
Oswalds bear ranch is the largest (Bear only) bear ranch in the United States. Located on 80 acres of woods and a lake. Walk around the perimeter fence line. Travel time is about 45 minutes from Gulliver Lake.
Tahquamenon Falls is the second largest water fall east of the Mississippi River. The Tahquamenon falls fame was noted in the "Song of Hiawatha" by Henry Longfellow and is located on the shore of Lake Superior's Whitefish Bay. A sight to see year around. Travel time is about 1 hr from Gulliver Lake.
When visiting Tahquamenon Falls be sure to stop in at the Tahquamenon Logging Museum. The colorful logging history of this area of the UP is detailed in the Museum. Travel time is about 1 hr from Gulliver Lake.
The Soo Locks has been referred to as one of the great wonders of the world and it is still the largest waterway traffic system on earth. Boat tours are available which will ride the water 21 feet straight up to the level of Lake Superior. You'll learn about one of the earliest settlements America. The Great Lakes Shipping Museum in Whitefish Point invites you to explore the haunting world of Lake Superior ship wrecks. Few wrecks across a span of nearly 175 years from the schooner "Invincible" in 1816 to the wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald in 1975. Travel time is about 1 hr 30minutes from Gulliver Lake.
A visit to Picture Rocks in Munising is sure to inspire. Extending eastward into Lake Superior from Munising this natural formation is best seen by boat. From boat you will also see a variety of other natural formations jutting out into the waters of Lake Superior. Travel time is about 1 hr 10 minutes from Gulliver Lake.
Glass bottom boat tours allows you to discover the shipwrecks of Lake Superior. Located in Munising this tour is 2 hours of narrated history describing the wrecks and local history. Travel time is about 1 hr 10 minutes from Gulliver Lake.
Fayette Historic Townsite is located on the north shore of Lake Michigan. The town was once a bustling industiral community which manufactured charcoal pig iron form 1867 to 1891. Today 19 strutures remain. A modern visitor center and musuem exhibits provide insight into the life and times of this once vibrant town. Travel time is about 1 hr from Gulliver Lake.
The Seul Choix Point light station in Gulliver is open to visitors. Travel time is about 10 minutes from Gulliver Lake.
